Haunted Library in Dutchess County, NY

This Tudor styled library build in 1887 was once a newspaper printer, a bakery and now a library. It sports many spirits from each incarnation. -photo by Terri J. Garofalo
It was here Terri J. Garofalo and Donna Parish-Bischoff met for the first time. This was the beginning of IndyPara.
We had plenty of experiences at this venue. A newspaper boy is supposed to haunt here, also a former librarian. We found evidence of both as well as a male spirit in the basement. Local police have seen the apparition of the boy in the window. A glass case of shelves crashed down for no reason once. Mysteriously, nothing was broken. This happened after they had a meeting about bringing in a new library head. We surmised the spirits did not want the other guy to leave.
Highlights of the evening were hearing the moan of a woman in the upstairs great room. I captured it on my voice recorder, fortunately. Down in the basement my camera battery went totally dead. It later resurrected itself for some reason. The basement yielded the presence of a gruff man. Donna was overcome by a grief stricken spirit, which made her tear up. There was a lot of action on the EMF detector as well.
One of the funniest EVPs we picked up was one from a spirit worried about his late library fees. We were honored to capture the voice of the former library aide who actually lived there in an apartment in the building for a while. Her photos are all around. She followed us around commenting, wanting to make herself known.

Hi! I’m a librarian doing research on haunted libraries. Can you let me know the name of this one and the town where it is located? Thanks!
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to release that information. I really would love to, as it’s an amazing place and I do not feel a haunted history would hurt it in the least, but I cannot disclose the information unless the board of directors allows me too.
Sorry.
Tj
Well darn! I understand you have to stick to their wishes, but I agree that such publicity couldn’t hurt
Well,if you happen to still be in touch with the directors and feel like telling them a young librarian with an interest in the paranormal would love to be in touch with them sometime, I would appreciate it
If not, oh well!
I hear ya! But, we must honor their wishes.
